Skills Development through Reffer Automotive Research and Skilling Centre

Youth unemployment remains one of Uganda and Africa’s biggest challenges, and Reffer Automotive Research and Skilling Centre was created to answer it with action. This is not a theory classroom. It is a workshop where youth learn by doing — stripping engines, diagnosing electrical faults, welding frames, and servicing modern vehicles with computer systems.

We offer short courses and full certification programs in motor vehicle mechanics, auto electrical, body repair, and welding. Training is hands-on, using real cars and modern diagnostic tools. Industry partners visit regularly to assess students and offer apprenticeships. Many of our graduates now run their own garages, work with transport companies, or are employed by dealerships.

Why Reffer Automotive Research and Skilling Centre

The Centre also conducts research on locally appropriate automotive solutions — adapting vehicles for rural roads, improving fuel efficiency, and training mechanics on electric vehicle basics. This blend of practical training and research makes Reffer a true skilling hub, not just a training school.
